Mark Castelijns developing a risk model for road construction

12 June 2015

Civil Engineering student Mark Castelijns is currently developing a risk model for road construction. He is based at Boskalis and hopes to add value to the risk model debate whilst undertaking his final year bachelor project.

Integrated contracts have become the norm since 2004. In addition to undertaking the construction work, contractors have to undertake the design work and take responsibility for maintenance. Longer guarantee periods provides a higher risk profile for contractors. There is therefore a need for accurate quantitative data to develop accurate risk models. Mark will study how data collected using the ASPARi developed PQi methodology can be combined with visual inspection data collected using video imaging, can be combined to form risk models for road construction.
